Birth Doulas

What is a Birth Doula?

A birth doula is a specially trained birth companion offering support for you during the pregnancy, labor and delivery of a baby. They provide non-medical support to the birthing team, mother, father, family and friends by providing emotional and physical support.

What Does a Doula Do?

The doula chosen to attend your birth will often meet with you prior to your delivery day to discuss your birthing options, rights, preferences and much more. On the day of delivery your doula will meet with you at the time of your request to bring her into your space. Upon arrival your doula will offer hands on and/or emotional support to you and the rest of your support team. She will stay with you until after the baby is born until the specified time between you and the doula, as this varies for each of them. Once home and settled your doula will come to you for a postpartum follow up to discuss the birth, newborn care, care for yourself and anything else you desire. She may offer resources and referrals depending on the needs of you.
